May 30, 2017, marks another major milestone in the sociological development of the nation-state of Trinidad and Tobago. For on this day—May 30, 1845 to March 1917—some 147,597 East Indians were brought here by the colonial British Government to work on enhancing the agricultural capacity of this land.

If the Government was really serious about dealing with crime, one initiative to help citizens secure their homes and businesses would be to remove all duties and taxes on all CCTV equipment, thereby allowing more people the ability to install them.

An open suggestion to the mayor of Port-of-Spain, Louis Lee Sing, if this falls under his jurisdiction: Just as you want to control the times during which alcohol can be publicly consumed, by restricting the hours of trade of the bars etc, why not look at the inconsiderate use...

Out of an abundance of caution, THA Chief Secretary Orville London has very carefully avoided setting a precedent and in so doing has succeeded in firmly establishing Tobago and its officials as heartless, uncaring and unconscionable, concerned with protecting the tourism...

A month ago nearly everybody was crying “no one is above the law” as we all vilified Police Service Commission boss Nizam Mohammed for “pulling rank” on two police officers.

Everybody knows that whenever your expenditure is more than your income for successive years you are left with no alternative but to go out of business.

Most of you would agree that every year too many of our children fall through the cracks under the present education system and become the ones most “at-risk and vulnerable” to criminal intent.

As a slap to the face of law-abiding citizens of the country, the Minister of Works and Transport, Jack Warner, is playing with serious fire by considering legitimising the illegal PH (private hire) taxis at the expense of those plying a legal, registered and honest trade.

PNM political leader Dr Keith Rowley is such a sourpuss. He has denied hundreds of poor children a bit of Christmas cheer by his attitude and his orders to his MPs. Rowley has stooped so low as to politicise Christmas, the season of peace and goodwill to all. Shameful!

I note with interest the recent debate on whether the UNC is dead.

It is common knowledge that there is a disconnect between MPs and the citizens who elected them into high office. I live in the southern area and I was happy to see a change from the corruption that was associated with the previous administration.

For more than three years, water has been leaking out of the Coblentz Avenue, Cascade, booster at about 700 gallons a day. I made (and I feel sure many others did) several complaints to WASA about it and wrote letters to a firm that took some interest when no action was taken.
