I am 67-years-old and the holder of a Clico EFPA policy contract in the princely sum of $55,000.

It is with dismay that I have read the stinging criticism of “the hierarchy of the Tobago House of Assembly” and the Assembly’s executive by Mr Martin George, a member of the Police Service Commission in the Sunday Guardian of February 20, 2011.

All concern Trinidadian and Tobagonian have now realised that gruesome criminal activities have escalated to gigantic proportions and are eagerly looking towards their Parliamentary Representatives to pass legislations to enact these as law with expediency and without any undue delays.

Culture is an integral part of every society. It is a learned pattern of behavior in which a person lives his or her life. Culture is essential for the existence of a society, because it binds people together.

It seems that we will never learn. Even after spending (no, wasting) one to two billion dollars on Miss Universe, Ring Bang, Summit of the Americas and CHOGM, and reaping no real benefit, many of us still believe that hosting Miss World might be a good idea.

In a world where it is so “cool” to be loveless, it is difficult to understand the love God continues to direct our way.

Sunday, February 27, 2011

After having read Prof Selwyn R Cudjoe’s “Playing the race card” in the Thursday Guardian, I am left to wonder whether intellectualism is really a blessing or a curse.

It is about time that Trinidadians are given an alternative to the local zoo. I dread taking my family to the zoo as the animals are in such poor condition. The animals my children love seem to die off on a daily basis.

First, it must be noted the decision of the Appeal Court to not grant bail on the basis of jurisdiction must be respected. However, it begs the question if our system of justice is truly dealing out justice to citizens of T&T.

Open letter to Winston Peters, Minister of Arts and Multiculturalism: In my opinion it is not proportional to be paying $2 million each to the chutney, soca and calypso monarchs while the extempo monarch gets what can only be described as peanuts.

Having attended the Panorama semi-finals, I must say that in many ways Pan Trinbago got it right. The show ran smoother than any in the recent past as far as band changeover goes. A massive crowd was on hand, certainly filling the coffers.

Many of the more popular chutney soca singers have applauded rum in song. None of us therefore should be surprised at the behaviour of this year’s runner-up. He acted and sounded as though he had ingested white rum and water upon hearing the competition results.

It’s interesting that there was even a winner at the Chutney Soca Competition, which to me was just a glorified “rum and wine” jam. Ravi B’s despicable behaviour only added to an amateur show where many of the singers “couldn’t even pull a good tune” aided by cheap lyrics.

Open letter to the Minister of Works, Jack Warner; the Minister of Agriculture, Vasant Bharath, and the Prime Minister, Kamla Persad-Bissessar:  We believe, as most people do, that road repairs should be prioritised according to the level of severity.
