Ramdin teams up with Generika for second season
T&T’s accomplished women’s volleyball player, Darlene Ramdin signed a contract last week to play for Generika-Ayala Lifesavers for a second consecutive season. The team from the Philippines will open the Philippine Super League (PSL) Grand Prix on Saturday at the FilOil Flying V Centre.
She accepted the call to join the team, following an injury sustained to one of its players.
“It was such a fun experience playing in the Philippines last year. It is truly a blessing to be given another opportunity to play with Generika for a second consecutive season! I am ready and super pumped to see what this 2017 season has in store for us,” she said.
Last weekend, Ramdin helped T&T book a spot in next year’s 24-team World Championship in Japan. The Calypso Spikers placed second in the Third Round of the 2018 FIVB World Championship qualification and the NORCECA Continental Women’s Pool C Qualifiers at the National Cycling Centre, in Couva. This after the host team went under to Mexico in its deciding match 21-25, 22-25, 25-23, 25-22 and 9-15.
The 28-year-old is also known nationally for her Most Valuable Player (MVP) heroics with the T&T Junior Women’s Volleyball team, which she had led to a first place finish at the Junior Caribbean Cup in 2007. In that same year, she was also named the T&T Volleyball Federation women’s “Player of the Year”.
Ramdin has been representing T&T women’s volleyball at the senior level for numerous years and has played professionally for a multitude of teams throughout Europe and the Philippines
