Snaggs, McKenna come good for Senators
Christie Snaggs and Zakiya McKenna left it for late but their last quarter run was sufficient to get Malta Carib Senators the win over Mucurapo Ex-Pupils in the Second Division of the Lystra Lewis Port-of-Spain Netball League at the Jean Pierre Complex in Mucurapo on Tuesday evening.
McKenna, the goal-attack, led the scoring with 19 goals from 24 attempts and her goal-shooter added the other 14 from 24 tries for the winning team, which was made to work from the first pass
Mucurapo was no walkover and was competitive in the opening period, staying levelled at eight at the close. The intense battle continued into the second period with Senators sneaking ahead by one goal (14-13) at the halfway mark.
Much of the scoring responsibility for Mucurapo fell to Delecia Chelsea (19/31) and she had her team in a good position into the third quarter despite dropping behind by three (23-20) heading into the final quarter.
Sukurah Morgan’s presence in the circle was useful with her adding five in nine but her team could not make a comeback and fell away losing by eight.
In the other match of the division, goal-attack Abigail Bowel scored a leading 22 of 30 to help Horizon to a 46-34 win over Arima United.
On Monday, Shaniqua Griffith glided around the circle effortlessly to give Soul City another win in group X of the Third Division in the second match on court two. The goal-shooter connected 21 goals from 27 attempts in getting Soul City a cool 36-9 victory over Gems.
Operating with Nicola Alleyne in the circle, Griffith and her goal-attack had Soul City out front from the first pass, leading 9-2 at the end of the first quarter, gained an even bigger lead at the halfway mark, 22-4 and 29-7 in the third.
Alleyne ended with 15 in 23 while her opposing attack Camille Hepburn top-scored for Gems with five of 13.
In the earlier match in the division, Sheniqua Rogers put in 15 of 31 to see CS Jets to a 17-13 victory over Arima United.
Over on court one, Horizon and Ebony sealed victories in their respective matches against Transcend and SWWTU Malvern in the Kiwi Division.
Horizon outplayed Transcend, 19-1 while the other match-up was much closer with Ebony pulling off a 15-10 win.
